Old Bay Seasoning
Notes from Folks...
What is Old Bay Seasoning and where can I purchase it?
Patricia
Hi,
Old Bay Seasoning, according to some, has no substitute. You can often find it near the seafood section of your local grocery store or with the gourmet spices. You can ask your grocery store manager to order it in for you. You can definitely order it online. Just type "buy Old Bay Seasoning" into your favorite search engine to come up with many sellers.
However, if you'd rather make your own, you can use one of theses recipes:
Old Bay Seasoning
1 tablespoon celery seeds
1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
6 bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon whole cardamoms
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
4 whole cloves
1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika
1/4 teaspoon mace
In a spice grinder or small food processor, combine all of the ingredients.
Grind well and store in a small glass jar. Best if used within 6 months (date your jar).
