Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Biscuit Mayhem
Notes from Folks...

I enjoyed reading The 'Not-So-Perfect' Holiday Pie story. I had the same problem with biscuits.

We lived in the same house with my grandmother and my mother was in the hospital for quite some time. It was Easter and I fixed Pineapple shortcakes (in Michigan in the 60's --- quite a coup!). Somehow, when I was making the biscuits, I forgot to add baking powder. The biscuits were like Olympic discus and were hard as rocks. My (then) 13 year old brother tossed one at the refrigerator and it left a dent! My Grandmother, who was as nasty as they come, was chuckling as she tried to cut the biscuit. I dared NOT look at my brother.

Years later, when we replaced the refrigerator, I heard my Grandmother tell the prospective buyer that the dent was due to an attempted robbery where she threw a plate at the would-be burglar, sending him out the front door screaming for his life!! It gave me the best laugh I ever had with my Grandmother and to this day when I make biscuits, I NEVER forget the baking powder!
