These donuts were a weekend treat for my two sons (35&33) and daughter(will be 29 0n the 18th) when they were children. We would make buttercream icing, tint it with food coloring and top it with a varity of sprinkles. I now make them with my grandchildren on weekend sleep overs. I hope you enjoy making and eating them as much as we have!!
Karla
These donuts are great, but be careful not to over fry them or get the oil too hot. I have made lots of donuts where they didn't turn out, so I am very careful to have patience and wait for everything to be perfect.

Hope you get everything you want for your birthday!!

Happy Birthday Jackson. It's my birthday too! I did name my second son Patrick. His older brother tried to convince him when he was little that had two birthdays because everyone knows there is a St. PATRICK's Day. There is a little leprechan in all of us! Great recipe!!

grease needs to be 350 degrees any lower and it will suck up grease any higher and they will burn everyone should invest in a deep fryer thermometer they are the most accurate..

When making tomato sauce many choose to reduce the acid of the sauce by adding sugar. Infact, that only serves to make the acidic sauce sweeter. Try adding a pinch of baking powder to neutralize the acid. An old trick my Grandmother showed me when I was growing up in the kitchen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSON, how old are you today? Your Mom is right about using Mexican Vanilla...yummy. I am lucky enough that I only live 60 miles from the Mexican border, and can go down and replenish my vanilla easily. Enjoy your special green donuts!!
Sandie
Happy Birthday Jackson. Have a nice St. Paddy's day. I am, since I'm Irish, red hair and green eyes included.

I just read all of these great comments and birthday wishes to Jackie while we ate his birthday dinner. We were all so surprised and pleased with the birthday wishes. I said "Jackie, what do you have to say to all of these nice people?" He said "thank you!" Thank you to everyone! We loved all of your comments. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you!

This is a great way to make donuts. Any recommendation for the type of oil to use?
D. Brown
I used granulated sucrolose mixed with powdered cinnamon. Sucrolose granulte can also be "tinted" with different food colors then put in a baggie in which to shake the donuts.

I learned how to make those in Home Ec when I was in middle school. I keep meaning to make them for my kids.

My husband's great-great grandfather was also born on St. Patrick's day, in 1808 in Limerick, Ireland. He was named Patrick Mahoney! You can't get more Irish than that
The donuts look great. I am going to try them, but have to watch the carbs as I am diabetic.
Happy birthday Jackson
Happy belated birthday! We used to make these with the kids (now 22 and 25)--I'm going to add it to our family cookbook so we can pass on this wonderful family tradition!
