Frequently Asked Questions

  • "Is there a release date yet? I can't wait to upgrade my Cook'n..."
Yes. Cook'n Version 9 will ship on November 1! Pre-order today with coupon code    Version9Rocks    and save 50%! This special offer ends on the day Cook'n is released...so order today!
  • "Is it compatible with Apple/iMac?"
No...but we're working on the Mac version now and should finish it before the end of this year!
  • "Love the new updated program. BUT will I be able to use all of the cookbooks I already have downloaded onto my computer with the newer program?"
Yes! The new version comes with an upgrade feature that will update all of your recipes (including the recipes you entered) from the old format to the new automatically!
  • "I was wondering,if it would be possible to maybe go a little slower explaining the steps"
This was video was designed to show the new features, not to be a training guide. However, there's no need to worry because there will be plenty of training videos to show you exactly how to do it. Also, please remember that if you need to see something again, just pause it and re-play the video!
  • "Would it be possible to allow us to install it to a server & then have the desktop icon on the various PCs? We have 3 differnt laptops, and we don't always use the same one."
Yes! This is a great idea! In the new version, we've separated the application from the application data. Now you can simply map a network drive and access your recipe database from any computer on the network.
  • "Has it been tested on both Microsoft Vista and Windows 7?"
Yes! It works great on all Windows Operating Systems.
  • "Love the new user friendly look. Any plans on coming out with an iPhone app? That would totally complete what is already a great program. Thanks for all your hard work."
Yes! We're working on that right now too and hope to have it out shortly after the Mac version.
  • "Does this program have the capability to change the serving size and quantity of servings; from larger or smaller portions and calculating the difference in the ingredients (converting)?"
Yes! The new version can do everything the old version can do...it just does it with Pizzaz!
  • "Please tell me you are going to alphabetize the categories!!!"
The new version lets you sort the lists and re-order the lists any way you want. It's incredibly flexible this way.
  • "The updated menu planning feature already has me salivating. It would be nice to be able to create a saved "Menu Profile" for like "Sunday through Saturday: B, L and D" OR even "Sunday through Saturday: B, Snack, L, Snack & D" etc etc... Menu profiles. You know with many people going on diets and changing how they eat for healthy living... creating menus should be a snap! Menu Profiles would make that easier with a mouse click.--Todd"
Thank you for the comment Todd. After I read this, I was so excited about your suggestion that I went ahead and added the feature you requested. Now, you can create a profile and then right-click on it and choose Copy when you want to plan a new menu. It works unbelievably well. Thanks!
  • "Dan, these are nice improvements but they are not "great!". I believe you are headed there though. What we really need to make this irresistible, is an automatic caloric counter. I.e. I enter a recipe that calls for one cup sugar, 1 cup flour, and a 1/2 cup butter... when I am finished entering the ingredients for the recipe, the software automatically counts the calorie for each ingredient, divides by a recommended serving size and automatically computes the number of calories for that recipe. It would be awesome! To get to the point of "excellence!" though, it should automatically compute nutritional information. Who could refuse such a product? I would tell all my friends, they would buy it; they would tell their friends and they would buy it, and on and on. It would be an easy software change and make a whole lot more money. They you for your diligence in seeking out and providing the very best! God Speed, Karol"
Time to pick up the phone and start calling your friends Karol! :)
  • "Provide the nutritional information by Day, Meal, Item, etc. with the menu planner. This would allow creating a diet by week and then using the recipes and shopping list to achieve better success with glucose management."
Done Palma! You're gonna love it!
  • "I was wondering if you were going to re-activate the e-mail feature so I can send e-mails with a recipe to my friends who also have Cook'n. This was a feature I greatly missed when you changed the older program to the AOL format. Copy and pasting works but is less convenient. The original way allowed for an easier insertion of the recipe into DVO by the reader. I am looking forward to using your new version."
Yes, we totally re-wrote the e-mail recipe code. The new version gives you the option to use the DVO mail server or to enter your own.
  • "Hopefully the new version will give us a separate field to enter the recipe source, serving size, and yield (4 dozen, 1 pint, etc.)."
It does...and now you can search your recipe database based on these new fields. It's sweet!
  • "Will this help with scanning recipes?"
No. This is not a feature we worked on with this upgrade. However, we will be looking at this very carefully in our next version.
  • "Any printing improvements?"
The printing features are pretty darn good right now...so, we did not focus a lot of effort on printing improvements in this upgrade but we have some great ideas on ways to make them even better in the next upgrade.
