DVO has recently made some major updates for Vista compatibility. Before trying anything else use the built in update function or use the update installer.

To fix almost all Vista problems do the following:

Step One: Making sure Cookn is closed
Hold down your "ctl" + "alt" + "dele" keys at the same time
A window will open (if not try using your other ctl key)
Choose the last choice to start your task manager.
In the task manager
Select the process tab
At the top of the list of processes you will see a column header “image name” click on it.
This will alphabetize the list of processes
Click on “cookn99.exe” (if there is now cookn99.exe in the list skip to step two)
Click on the end process button
When the warning window opens click on ok.

Step Two: Giving Vista Special Instructions
Go to your desktop (this is the screen you see after you turn on your computer it may have a pretty background and a trash can icon) **If you do not have a desktop icon see the instruction below
Right click on the cookn icon
Select properties
On the shortcut tab change run: normal window to run: maximized
Click on apply
Select the compatibility tab
At the top check the “run this program under….” checkbox
Change the compatibility mode to windows 98/ windows ME
Click on apply then ok

Making a Desktop Icon If you installed cookn and can not find it your computer did not make a desktop icon.
If your computer did not make a desktop icon during installation we will make one now
Click on start
Select “computer”
Open your c: drive (“local disk”)
Look for and open a folder called cookn*
Right click on cookn99.exe (it will have a strawberry next to it)
Select send to > desktop/icon
Now go to your desktop.
Right click on the cookn icon
Select properties
On the shortcut tab change run: normal window to run: maximized
Click on apply
Select the compatibility tab
At the top check the “run this program under….” Checkbox
Change the compatibility mode to windows 98/ windows ME
Click on apply then ok

*if you do not have a folder called cookn open your program files
Look for a folder call dvo. (you may have an additional folder if so open it)
Inside this will be a file called cookn99.exe

Trouble Using Cook'n on Windows Vista

If you are using Cook'n on the new Windows Vista operating system there are a few problems that may rarely occur in certain configurations. To avoid most of these problems make sure that you have updated to the latest version. Cook'n works best on Vista when installed directly on the c:\ drive or local disk, not in the program files. It's is best that Cook'n is installed as the Administrator. If Cook'n won't run and you are signed in under a Guest profile try right clicking the Cook'n icon and select 'Run as administrator'.

Problems when minimizing Cook'n in Windows Vista

Some Vista users have had a problem when minimizing Cook'n. Instead of shrinking it down to the task bar at the bottom Cook'n just disappears. The Cook'n program is still running but can't be seen. One way to bring Cook'n back to the desktop is to hold the alt key down and press the tab key. For a more long term solution Vista should be told how to open Cook'n properly.

I click on Cook'n and nothing Happens

Cook'n is running in the background. However, Vista needs to be told to display Cook'n. Right-Click on Cook'n, click Properties> Shortcut> Change the Run: normal window dropdown to Run: maximized.
