German Chocolate Smoothie |
|
Believe it or not, German chocolate cake is an American creation. In 1852, Sam German created a mild, dark baking chocolate bar for the Baker’s Chocolate Co., and it was named in his honor: Baker’s German’s Sweet Chocolate. The first recipe for German chocolate cake appeared in a Dallas newspaper in 1957 and came from a Texas homemaker. Whoever thought this luscious bakery treat could morph into an equally delectable smoothie?
1/2 to 2/3 cup milk
2 to 3 tablespoons German Chocolate Sauce
1 cup partially frozen diced bananas
2 tablespoons chopped pecans
1/2 cup Almond Joy or favorite coconut or vanilla ice cream

Place the milk, 2 tablespoons German Chocolate Sauce, the banana, pecans, and ice cream in a blender and mix by using the on/off pulse function until the ingredients are mostly blended. Continue mixing, gradually increasing the speed, until the mixture is smooth. If you like, spoon 1 tablespoon German Chocolate Sauce in the bottom of a glass and add the smoothie. Garnish with a Vanilla Pirouette (see Great Garnishes), if desired.
