1. Heat oven to 350°F.
2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour to thicken slightly.
3. Meanwhile, place bread pieces on baking sheet and bake 12 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from heat and cool completely.
4. Place mixed greens in a salad bowl, add dressing and cheese, and toss gently, yet thoroughly. Add croutons, toss, and serve.
