Why Do You Like Certain Foods?

When I was a kid, I remember the salads that my mom used to make. She made them for herself and on occasion, after lots of begging, she would give me a bite.

As I think back on it, I can almost taste the flavorful tuna, crunchy lettuce, and the cool cucumber with just the right amount of Ranch salad dressing. Yum!!! I loved it. I craved it!

I still love those salads to this day. When Kathy sees me dumping a can of Tuna on my salad, she says "yuck!"

One day we discussed her reaction and my love for these salads. I learned some interesting facts:
  1. One of the reasons I love the salads so much is because the bites were so few and far between! Mom would only share a bite or two with me and when I asked for more, she complained. This only made me want them more!
  2. Ironically, my mom hated them. The only reason she ate the salads was because they were part of some kind of fad diet she was on. She was starving herself...eating only the salads and a few other things on the diet plan and that's why she did not like to share them with me. Here, I could eat anything that I wanted and instead of enjoying the delicious food she had placed in front of me...the only thing I wanted was her salad! This didn't make any sense to her!
If she had served me salads and I could eat as much as I wanted...I probably wouldn't love them as much as I do today!

However, I have a hard time imagining myself not liking them...especially when I improve them even more by adding Homemade Ranch salad dressing.

We desire food for a number of reasons. In some cases, our body will crave a certain food that has the vitamins or minerals that we need. In other cases, we eat food because of the taste. However, I believe that there are some foods that we eat because we have developed some kind of emotional attachment to them.

Do you agree? Do you have an emotional attachment to certain foods? If so, please cast your vote and tell us what food that is in the comments section. I can't wait to read your comments!
