Dorothy's Hamantashen Dough

From Dorothy Fall, Shellie Specter's paternal aunt

This is the greatest dough!!!

Yield: 7 dozen

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening like Crisco
1 cup sugar
4 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup orange juice

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Then add dry ingredients alternately with orange juice. Knead until all mixed. Shape into long rolls & refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight (Dorothy prefers overnight). Roll out, fill and bake on a greased cookie sheet 375°F 10-12 minutes or until as brown as you like.

Note: the cookie cutter I use is a can that used to hold 5 oz of tuna or salmon. Several days before Purim, I open the can, eat the tuna and send the empty can through the dishwasher. It's a great size for making hamentashen. The diameter is 3 1/4 inches.
